I haven't been progressing in back flexibility, (for contortion) I can just barely do a chest stand with my legs straight. Any tips?

I'm not a contortion trainer but since I practice it myself I think I can give one or two tips. At least I'll try. ^.^
Well, flexibility means training everyday. If you want to keep your flexibility you need to train a lot, above all if you didn't start young. Don't push too hard though or you might hurt your back. What I do to improve my back flexibility a bit is standing and bending my back as far as possible and try to help with my hands by grabbing my hips and pull so my back makes a deeper bend. When my ears whistle I stop not to hurt my back. I do that quite often, twice a day and everyday, if not more. You can also put your chest on the floor and try to touch your shoulders with your feet. If you can't do it with both at once try with only one foot. And if you need you can ask a friend to help but has to be careful and listen to you carefully. But as I said before, I'm not a trainer so I'm not too sure this is the best thing you can do to improve your back flexibility. It works with me though. Hope this can also help you a bit. =)

Thank you so much for the help. :) I did contortion every day for two hours for months, and I progressed quickly-ish, and then I hit a glass ceiling. My flexibility stopped improving. (Though now I can do over splits cold, with absolutely no discomfort. lol.) I just barely sat on my head once or twice, and can still do advanced over splits. But I never progressed any more. For weeks or months I didn't progress. I'm currently taking a break. I wonder if I overdid it, and that's why I didn't progress. My back hurt everyday. I was born with natural flexibility, and took ballet for years as a little girl. I can do a chest stand cold...(yeah, I know I'm not supposed to do stuff cold...I was being bad) But now, after a break of a month or two, it seems like I can do the same moves cold that I did with a warm up when I was practicing everyday. Basically, my cold flexibility has improved, but my warmed-up flexibility isn't as good as it was when I was practicing. I don't understand!! I love contortion, sorry for the long reply, and thank you so much for your help! :) Hug

Above all don't push too hard or you might get seriously injured. You may have to learn were are your limits so you can work better. But I'm sure you already know that of course. ^-^ I wish you good luck with your training and take good care and good continuation !
